Yes, Silencers (Suppressors), Fully Automatic Firearms, and Short Barreled Rifles and Shotguns are LEGAL IN ALABAMA. These are commonly known as CLASS III items.
No, you do not need a special license to purchase Class III items. You will need to pay a one-time $200 tax per item. This is not an Athens Guns fee and it goes directly to the government.
There is additional paperwork required (versus a regular firearm purchase) but if you are legally eligible to purchase a handgun in Alabama you will typically qualify for a Class III purchase.
